Big Data

Big Data is a very popular topic within the information technology industry now-a-days. This is very common that people often think “Large volume of data sets are known as Big Data”. Yes, it is a term which describes a large volume of data but this only line can not define entire Big Data term. So, we will learn today , What is Big Data?

There are three types of data, Structured, Semi Structured and Unstructured.

Structured: Most of we are familiar with Structured data. Structured data can be stored in SQL database in table with row and columns. They have relational key and easy to map with a pre-designed field. Structured data is highly organized and easy to manage with RDB (Relational Database).

Semi structured: Semi structured data doesn’t reside in a relational database but they have some organizational properties that make it easier to analyze. XML, JSON documents are semi structured data.

Unstructured: Unstructured data is everything else except Structured and Semi structured data. Today more than 80% of the data generated is unstructured. According to the source of IDC (2014), size of unstructured data shipped around 80 Exabyte (EB).

“Big data is an evolving term that describes any voluminous amount of structured, semi structured and unstructured data that has the potential to be mined for information.”
